After introducing ourselves with our talking feather, we visited Mexico to learn about the chinampas farming design that was used for hundreds of years as a means of producing an abundance of food with little input.  These finger-like “floating gardens” make the most of the complex interactions between water, plants and creatures to create a no-waste system where waste is turned into resources.  For example, after ducks eat unwanted weeds and bugs, their droppings become food for fish, which can be then scooped and used as fertilizer for plants, resulting in plants for consuming.  Fish and ducks would also be used as food. Amazingly, the chinampas design also creates a warmer microclimate which ensures food production all year round.  A true permaculture design!
